The per annum increases in the salaries of the chairman and members of the Crofters Commission introduced since April 1976 have been as follows:

- One member (part-time)—£139·20
- Five members (part-time)—£69·60 each
With effect from 1st January 1978
- Chairman (full-time)—£959

On 30th September 1978 the full-time chairman—£10,380 per annum—retired and was replaced by a part-time chairman—£6,920 per annum. One of the part-time members—£2,617 per annum—was replaced by a part-time member—£2,732 per annum.
The question of expenses claimed by the chairman and members is one for the Commission itself, and the hon. Member may wish to write on this point to the chairman.

On first appointment, the chairman's salary—parttime—was £9,500 and that of the deputy chairman and chief executive, £18,000. They received annual increases of £104·40 and £208·80 respectively, with effect from 1st January 1977. A further 10 per cent. increase has been paid to the chairman, deputy chairman and board members from 1st January 1978.The payment of expenses is a matter for the agency itself within the funds made available.
