asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether she will now introduce legislation for the devolution of the Victoria and Albert museum from her Department to control by independent unpaid trustees in accordance with the recommendations of the Standing Commission on Museums and Galleries and of Heritage in Danger; and whether she will make a statement.

The Department of Education and Science recently issued a consultation document on the future status of the Victoria and Albert museum and the Science museum. My right hon. Friend will consider the position when all comments have been received and such consultations as prove desirable in the light of these comments have been completed.
