asked the Secretary of State for Trade whether any part of the 73·5 per cent. increase during the past two years in the annual pay of the chairman of the British Tourist Authority was due to an adjustment of the time input basis of calculation; and, if so, if he will specify the change in time input basis and the increase in annual gross emoluments directly attributable to this.

Yes. The chairman's working commitment was increased by one and a half days a week from 1st September 1977, with a resultant increase in the annual gross emoluments of £ 3,911·54.

asked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will list in the Official Report the full-time occupation and the part-time official appointments held by the chairman of the British Tourist Authority.

Sir Henry Marking has no full-time appointment. He works four days a week as chairman of the British Tourist Authority and is also a part-time member of the British Airways Board.
