asked the Secretary of State for Wales whether he is able to authorise additional expenditure by area health authorities in Wales in the present financial year.

Following a review of the requirements this year of Welsh Office programmes as a whole, I am able to increase expenditure on the National Health Service in Wales by £3·0 million. It has also been possible to release a further £1·5 million to health authorities from this year's reserves. £4 million of this total of £4·5 million will be allocated to the authorities on a basis which reflects the relative burden of health care. The remaining £0·5 million will be used for specific projects of value to authorities generally.

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will publish a table showing the percentage increase in the rate support grant payable for the needs element for each authority in Wales for 1979–80 as compared with 1974–75.
