asked the Secretary of State for Transport what discussions he has had with British Railways about further electrification as a means of conserving energy.

I informed the House on 24th May of the arrangements for the current joint review by my Department and the Railways Board of the case for a programme of main line electrification. This review is taking account of the scope for conserving energy through electrification, and of other energy considerations.— [Vol. 950, c. 590.]
