Mr. R. C. Mitchell
asked the Secretary of State for Transport what was the total tonnage of shipping using Southampton docks during 1978; and how this compares with the previous three years.
Mr. William Rodgers
I am advised by the British Transport Docks Board that it estimates the net registered tonnage of ships entering the port of Southampton in 1978 to have been about 60ยท5 million tonnes. The figures for the previous three years have been published in the Board's annual report and are as follows:
1975 | 63,083,000 |
1976 | 65,751,000 |
1977 | 59,494,000 |
