asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will review the traffic data collection system used on the A21 trunk road to ensure that up-to-date information is available to his Department; and if he will revise his views based on the latest traffic information available from the county councils in order to uprate the requirement for re building this road to that of a dual carriageway.

During the years 1974 to 1977 before the A21 was trunked, there were seven traffic counting points. We plan to count on almost 20 sections of the A21 between Tonbridge and Hastings and, in addition, will have counts at Hurst Green eight times per year. The latest available traffic information will be taken into account whenever decisions on the standard of this road are taken.
