asked the Secretary of State for Energy how much gas has been flared off in North Sea installations during the period 1 May to 30 October.

The following table gives figures for oil production and the flaring of gas associated with that production from January to September 1979. Production and flaring figures for October are not yet available.Office decides to join the Comittee of London Clearing Bankers, it will still be the policy of his Department that National Giro should continue to provide the unique Giro transfer service for which it was created.

That would be a matter for the Post Office. I understand however that entry into the clearing house would not affect National Girobank's ability to provide a Giro transfer service.

asked the Secretary of State for Industry whether his proposals for the separation of the postal and banking business of the Post Office from its telecommunications activities include the merger of the banking business of National Giro with the National Savings Bank.

asked the Secretary of State for Industry whether his Department has any arrangements for settling bills from the Post Office by using National Giro transfer facilities; and, if he will give details.

No. My Department settles Post Office accounts through the Paymaster General's Office.
