Mr. Alton
asked the Minister of Transport how many unadopted roads there are in the United Kingdom; and if he will consider making funds available for local authorities to mount joint schemes with residents wishing their roads to be adopted.
Mr. Kenneth Clarke
The Government do not have these figures. The local authorities in England, Wales and Scotland have to decide whether to contribute to making up private streets for adoption in determining their spending priorities within the total funds available to them for transport. There are no extra funds available for this purpose.
