asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will give an estimate of the cost of giving tax relief to parents who send their children to fee-paying schools.

[pursuant to his reply, 3 December 1979, c. 79]: Information on which to base an accurate estimate is not available, but it is thought that the cost might be of the order of £200 million in the fiscal year 1979–80.
