treatment between those students in further education funded by the Scottish Education Department and those dependent on grants from local authorities; and if he will make a statement.

:Bursaries which may be awarded by education authorities in Scotland to students taking courses of non-advanced further education are assessed in accordance with regulations made by me. Under these regulations, students of 18 and over are treated in broadly the same way as students attending full-time degree and comparable advanced courses who are eligible for awards under my Department's students' allowances scheme. Students under 18 are eligible for bursaries which are equated broadly with higher school bursaries on the principle, which has been accepted by successive Governments, that all young people under 18 should be treated alike for bursary purposes whether at school or in further education. The awards made under the students' allowances scheme and education authority bursaries will be reviewed before the start of session 1980–81.
