asked the Minister of Transport what consideration he has given to the dispute between the boroughs of Broxbourne and Enfield with the Greater London Council in regard to the proposed north-south route through Enfield and in particular in regard to the question of a direct link thereto with the M25; and if he will detail the procedures and timetable whereby formal representations can be made by the boroughs so that their views may be fully taken into account in consultation and discussion.

In matters relating to the Greater London Council's north-south road I consider it is for that council and the local authorities to resolve their differences. The GLC has not proposed a direct connection between the M25 and the north-south route, but, if such a connection were proposed, I would be reluctant to agree to it for constructional and traffic reasons. The timetable for procedures under Highways Acts is entirely a matter for the Greater London Council, but I understand that consideration of the report on formal consultation will take place this spring and interested parties have been invited to indicate their views on whether construction of the road should proceed as currently planned.
