asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will now take steps to ensure that decisions about development of land, which should be within a green belt, are deferred until local plans are prepared, and made subject to local inquiries; and if he will now hold a public inquiry about proposed development at Whirlow Hall.

The precise boundaries of the green belt will be defined in local plans. It is not my intention to intervene in the question of the proposed residential development at Whirlow Hall; this is a matter for decision by the two local authorities concerned.
