Road Projects (European Community Aid)

asked the Minister of Transport what aid, and under which headings, has been received from the European Community in each year since 1973 for road projects in (a) England, (b) Scotland, (c) Wales and (d) Northern Ireland.

Grants received from the European regional development fund towards roads in England, which were all for local authority capital projects, have amounted to:

In addition, some local authorities and other bodies have received loans from the European Investment Bank that have been applied to road projects.Aid towards roads in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland is the responsibility of the Secretaries of State for those countries.
