asked the Secretary of State for Defence, further to his replies to the hon. Member for Isle of Wight (Mr. Ross) on 12 June 1979, Official Report, columns 212 to 214, and on 30 October 1979, Official Report, column 999, what steps he has so far taken to resolve the anomalies in pension provision for Service men; how many Service men are involved; and when he expects to announce remedial measures.

The Government's examination of this issue has been concluded and the result was announced by my hon. Friend the Minister of State, Civil Service Department on 21 December 1979.—[Vol. 976, c. 421–2.]Between 1 April 1976 and 31 March 1978 nearly 19,000 officers and other ranks retired from Her Majesty's Armed Forces with pensions affected by the incomes policy of the previous Government.
