asked the Secretary of State for Trade what negotiations are taking place between his Department and the Law Society on the introduction of changes in the Solicitors' Practice Rules in line with the recommendation of the 1976 Monopoly and Mergers Commission report.

None at present. The previous Government said on 17 May 1978—[Vol. 950, c. 165–8]—that they expected the Law Society to consider this matter further in the light of any relevant recommendations of the Royal Commission on legal services. The Government are considering the implications of the Royal Commission report in this respect.
