asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if it is his intention that the period of a previous tenancy in either Her Majesty's Services housing unit or Crown property qualifies in the cumulative total of years for discount when purchasing a local authority dwelling under the provisions of the Housing Bill now before Parliament; and if he will make a statement.

The Housing Bill would allow discount to be claimed in respect of time spent by a person who was a member of the Armed Forces on or after 21 December 1979 in accommodation provided for him in that capacity.Time spent as a tenant of Crown property would not count towards qualification for discount.
