asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if, in view of the inadequacy of rheumatology services in the area, he will inquire into the proposed closure of St. John's hospital, Droitwich, which will cause hardship to many people in the West Midlands suffering from rheumatic and arthritic conditions.

The Hereford and Worcester area health authority, which is responsible for the provision of services at St. John's has made no firm proposals for closure. I understand that the Bromsgrove and Redditch district management team has been considering possible closure, but I would expect the area health authority to consult local interests fully if and when it decided to pursue this course.
