Mr. Wigley
asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how much per head of population is spent by central Government on housing in England.
Mr. Stanley
In the year ended 31 March 1979 the net expenditure on the Housing, England Vote was £2,292,890,685; an average of £49·47 per head of the population. These figures take no account of mortgage interest tax relief or of payments made by the Department of Health and Social Security to supplementary benefit claimants in respect of housing.
