asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the current expectancy of life for a man of the age of 65 years and for a woman of the age of 60; and what were the equivalent figures for the year 1955.

The following figures are based on mortality data for England and Wales for the three-year periods indicated:

Expectation of life for males aged 6511·912·5
