asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if local authority contributions to the maintenance of sub-post offices will qualify for rate support grant.

Local authorities have powers to make such contributions under section 51 of the Post Office Act 1953 (as amended), but in practice the sums involved are far too small to be included in the estimation of relevant expenditure for the calculation of rate support grant.
