asked the Secretary for Social Services if he has begun negotiations with the health service unions concerning redeployment and compensation of National Health Service administrative staff, following the publication of the Health Services Bill; and if he will make a statement.

I had a preliminary meeting on 10 March with the general purposes committee of the General Whitley Council staff side—representing NHS staff of all occupations—to discuss these and other staffing matters relating to the proposed NHS reorganisation. Arrangements for detailed negotiations with staff interests are now being made.
