asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he is satisfied with British Nuclear Fuel's proposal to increase its abstraction of water from Wastwater to 11 million gallons a day.

The proposal by British Nuclear Fuels Ltd. to increase its abstraction from Wastwater is one of the schemes under examination at a public inquiry now in progress at the Civic Hall, Whitehaven. I cannot, therefore, comment at this stage. When the inspector's report of the inquiry is received, we shall give the matter careful consideration.
