asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what progress he has made in his consideration of overnight detoxification.

We are discussing with voluntary organisations whether some existing overnight shelters for homeless people could, with aid from public funds, make special provision for drunks who might otherwise be arrested, kept overnight in police cells, and charged with drunkenness offences.
