asked the Minister of Transport how many persons have taken the test for the certificate of professional competence for an operator's licence under the Goods Vehicle Operators' (Qualifications) Regulations 1977; and how many of these have been successful.

There have been 15,564 entries for the freight national paper and 9,604 passes. The comparable figures for the freight international paper are 2,071 and 1,067. No record is kept of the number of resits.The information is published each year by the Royal Society of Arts examinations board in its booklet entitled " Report on Examinations in Session, Part V, Road Transport".
