asked the Minister of Transport whether he will make a statement on the response to date to his proposals for the A46 western bypass round Leicester; and what further action he envisages in this matter following the publication of the public expenditure White Paper.

We are still analysing the responses. Many differing views have been expressed. The place of individual schemes in the trunk road programme will be indicated in a White Paper which is to be published shortly.
