asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what measures his Department is taking to encourage the employment of blind people; and if he will make a statement.

The Government attach great importance to assisting disabled people, including the blind, to obtain suitable employment. In addition to providing employment rehabilitation and training facilities, the Manpower Services Commission operates a number of specialist schemes to help disabled people obtain or retain employment. The Manpower Services Commission recently launched its new " Fit for Work " campaign, which is aimed at promoting a wider understanding among employers of the abilities and potential of disabled workers.
