Stolen Vehicles

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many stolen vehicles have been reported in each Royal Ulster Constabulary divison in the past four months; what have been the total figures in each divison for the past three years; how many vehicles have not been recovered to date; and how many vehicles he estimates have been used for terrorist activity in each division.

The figures for April 1980 are not yet available.Information in respect of 1977 and 1978 is not available in the form requested. In 1977 a total of 5,027 vehicles were reported stolen and in 1978, 4,887.The total number of vehicles stolen since 1977 and not yet recovered is 1,672.

No realistic estimate of the number of stolen vehicles used for terrorist activity is possible.
