asked the Secretary of State for Wales what steps he has taken, and what measures he proposes to take, to protect the returns to Welsh livestock producers against the importation of hides from the Republic of Ireland in view of the 50 per cent. increase compared with a year ago.

There are no restrictions on trade between member countries of the EEC in hides which meet animal health requirements. Returns to livestock producers are supported through the operation of EEC and United Kingdom agricultural support measures.
