asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will seek powers to prevent intensive lamb production in battery cages, as is the practice in the United States of America.

We have no evidence to suggest that such a system is likely to develop in this country. If there were signs of it doing so, we would seek the advice of the Farm Animal Welfare Council.
