asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will make a statement on the cash limits for new towns for 1981–82.

Two separate cash limits for the new towns were announced in Cmnd. 8175, as follows:

DOE/NT1£140·3 million(housing and roads)
DOE/NT2£ 39·1 million(commercial and industrial)
Total£179·4 million
This assumed special disposals of £73·4 million. To give development corporations greater flexibility, it has now been decided to amalgamate the two cash limits into one.Deducting the assumed special disposals of £73·4 million from the total of £179·4 million, the new towns single cash limit will be:

DOE/NT1£106·0 million
