asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer in each of the last five years, how many (a) new deeds of covenant and (b) total existing deeds of covenant there were; and what information exists on the amounts for which deeds of covenant are currently being made.

The numbers of new deeds of covenant submitted to the Inland Revenue during the last five years are as follows (to the nearest thousand):
