asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the estimated income from National Health Service pay beds in England in the last year for which figures are available.

The income from private inpatients in 1980–81 was £42·6 million; and from private non-resident patients £3·8 million. The estimated total income from all private patients in 1982–83 is £52 million.
