asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what were the total numbers of people in the United Kingdom who were waiting for hospital operations under the National Health Service in 1960, 1970, 1980 and at the latest date available.

I refer my hon. Friend to my reply to him on 18 January 1982—[Vol. 16, c. 49–50.] The figure at 31 March 1981 was 601,484.
