asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many hospital beds have been closed in each hospital region from 1 January 1980 to the last date for which figures are available; and how many closures are contemplated for the financial year 1982–83.

various grades as a percentage of their average earnings at 1 April 1981. Average earnings have been calculated from average basic pay plus average special duty payments—for unsocial hours working—and average excess hours payments, but excluding flat rate pay leads, standard or miscellaneous allowances and London weighting. All the figures shown below exclude employers' National Insurance or superannuation payments.
