asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if the new district medical officers will be responsible for the day to day running and management of district scientific and related services such as pharmacy, laboratory imaging, physiological measurement audiology and orthoptics.

District health authorities determine the job descriptions of their district medical officers as for all their chief officers. The accountability of the heads of the departments who are responsible for the day-to-day running and management of district scientific and related services is a matter for authorities to determine in accordance with policy set out in the relevant circulars.
