asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many (a) council and (b) private houses were started in the city of Edinburgh housing authority area in 1981.

There were no local authority houses started in the city of Edinburgh district during 1981.There were 277 housing association and 15 SSHA starts in the period. I do not at present have reliable statistics of private sector house building in Edinburgh for 1981.
