Mr. Peter Mills
asked the Secretary of State for Transport what progress has been made in the possible use by his Department of the commercial insurance market.
Mr. David Howell
I am considering this issue following the decision announced by my hon. Friend the Under-Secretary of State for Defence Procurement in his written reply on 5 March—[Vol. 19, c. 245]—to my hon. Friend the Member for Newbury (Mr. McNair-Wilson), that part of his Department's claim work will be transferred to commercial insurance from the Claims Commission, which has hitherto handled motor accident claims on behalf of my Department.
