Some 1,700 hectares of forest land in Wales have been sold or are in the process of being sold under the Forestry Act 1981. Purchasers include lessors, former owners, neighbours, pension funds, local authorities, the National Coal Board and conservation and amenity interests. These sales are expected to realise some £2·1 million.
