asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the estimated cost of any early retirements or compensation payments for officers affected by the division of the Greenwich and Bexley area health authority into two separate health districts.

Only one premature retirement has as yet taken place among officers affected by the division of the Greenwich and Bexley area health authority into two health districts. Another chief officer will be retiring prematurely in a few month's time, but whether other premature retirements or redundancies will be necessary can not be decided until the management structures of the new districts have been determined. I would be very reluctant to give details of any payments that are made as they can so easily be related to individuals.
