asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether, in view of the effect of proposed changes in the structure of the Road Transport Industry Training Board on future employment prospects in Scotland, he will seek to introduce a scheme to provide alternative support for those aspects of the work of the board which directly affect Scotland.

No. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Employment announced last November our proposals for the future of training in the road transport industry and for changes to the scope of the Road Transport Industry Training Board. It is for the board to decide how best to meet the needs of the industry in Scotland and I understand that it is now reviewing its position, including new proposals for the future of its training centre at Livingston.
