asked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) how many homicides were reported to the police in 1980 and 1981; if he will break down the figures in each year into murder and culpable homicide; and how many of these cases have not been solved;(2) how many offences of

(a) murder and (b) culpable homicide, excluding death by reckless driving, were made known to the police in each year from 1975 to 1981.

Figures for 1975 to 1979 were published in table 3.1 of "Criminal Statistics, Scotland 1979". In 1980, 86 cases of homicide were recorded by the police, 50 of which are currently and provisionally classified as murder and 36 as culpable homicide, excluding causing death by reckless driving. Three cases remain unsolved. Figures for 1981 are not yet available.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list the number of victims of homicide by age and sex in 1980 and 1981 as broken down in table 3.2 of "Criminal Statistics Scotland 1979" (Cmnd. 8215).

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list in cases of homicide in 1980 and 1981 the relationship of the accused to the victim as set out in table 3.7 in "Criminal Statistics Scotland 1979" (Cmnd. 8215).

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will give the previous convictions of persons convicted of homicide in 1980 and 1981, set out as in table 3.9 of "Criminal Statistics Scotland 1979" (Cmnd. 8215).

I regret that the information requested is not yet available. We intend to publish it in due course in "Criminal Statistics, Scotland 1980".

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will set out the disposal of persons originally accused of homicide committed in 1980 and 1981, respectively, as in table 3.8 of "Criminal Statistics, Scotland 1979".
