asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he has any plans to increase the registration fees for approved driving instructors; and if he will make a statement.

We have recently proposed the following increases:

New feeExisting fee
££
Written examination2515
Practical examination6035
Initial four year registration5030
Subsequent four year registration6035
Trainee licence (valid for six months)4525
The existing fees were fixed in October 1978 to recover 50 per cent. of the cost of running the register of approved driving instructors. The new fees are the first stage in a move to full cost recovery. The driving instructors' associations and other interested bodies are being consulted about the proposals.
