asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will reconsider the decision to hold back student grants until his Department has been informed of those students who have successfully re-sat their examinations; and if he will make a statement.

No final decision has been reached regarding the procedure to be followed in identifying students who will be eligble for grant in 1982–83 after successfully re-sitting their examinations at the end of this session. My Department is reconsidering its proposals in the light of discussion with university representatives on 7 May.
