asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many (a) circulars, (b) administrative memoranda, (c) statutory instruments and (d) circular letters were issued by his Department to local authorities in England in each year since 1975.

The following table gives the information in so far as it is readily available. Figures for columns (b) and (d) in respect of 1975, 1976, 1978 and 1979 could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.
