asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations Her Majesty's Government have received from the United States Government on the signing of the law of the sea treaty.

Arrangements have been made for my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister to receive a special American emissary, Mr. Donald Rumsfeld, on 25 October to discuss questions arising following the adoption of the law of the sea convention. It is understood that Mr. Rumsfeld is visiting several other capitals as well.
