asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what study he had made of the impact of the proposed closure of the Lyons Maid factory on Merseyside; and if he will take special measures to alleviate the problem.

Officials of the Merseyside task force have kept me fully informed of the discussions they have had about the proposed closure and its impact. There is already a wide range of Government assistance for individuals and firms available in the area.
