asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will update the information given to the hon. Member for Birkenhead on 21 May 1981,Official Report,c. 161, on claimants being referred for medical examination.

Information about the number of supplementary benefit claimants referred for medical examination is no longer available. In view of the relatively small numbers involved, it was decided that medical examinations of supplementary benefit claimants should not be recorded separately from those for incapacity benefits in general.
