asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether circular 2/1981 still represents the views of Her Majesty's Government; and whether he is planning to revise the circular.

Circular 2/81 sets out my right hon. Friend's policies on the educational and financial advantages of taking surplus school places out of use as pupil numbers fall. Further advice has already been given in circular 4/82: "Statutory Proposals for Secondary Schools and Falling Rolls-. Copies of both circulars are in the Library of the House.
