asked the Secretary of State for Energy (1) if he has studied the Severn tidal power group situation report dated October 1982, a copy of which has been sent to him; and if he will make a statement;(2) if he will make available £7 million to fund a two-year study into financial, technical and environmental aspects of the Severn barrage.

I am considering all the comments received on the Severn barrage committee's report, including the proposals put forward by the Severn tidal power group and will make a statement as soon as possible.

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what criteria he takes into account when assessing the proposals for a Severn barrage scheme.

The Severn barrage committee's report, published as Energy Paper No. 46, set out the considerations which would need to be taken into account, and recommended further studies before any decision were taken to proceed with the construction of a barrage.
